NZD lagged other major currencies at the start of the new week after a leap in New Zealand inflation rates surprised investors and raised bets for a faster raising of interest rates at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

The New Zealand Dollar and other currencies rallied ahead of the weekend as financial markets responded to surprisingly strong U.S. economic figures and soothing remarks from Federal Reserve officials, all of which appeared to help push GBP/NZD close to six week lows.

The Pound to New Zealand Dollar rate saw a choppy start to the week but could be likely to find itself confined by a rough 1.9392 to 1.9547 range in the days ahead unless the Reserve Bank of New Zealand inspires the Kiwi to outperform in which case Sterling would potentially be at risk of revisiting 1.92.

The Pound to New Zealand Dollar exchange rate entered the new week around the middle of its one-month range and could be likely to trade toward the lower end of that spectrum over the coming days with price action spanning the gap between roughly the 1.9337 and 1.95 levels.

The New Zealand Dollar has been sold heavily thus far in the week alongside Sterling and there is evidence that some of the resulting losses reflect asset sales by the Swiss National Bank (SNB), although none of this has done anything to disrupt the sideways trend toward consolidation in GBP/NZD.
